Stevie Goldey: does he have to use his car as part of his job, like say being a salesman? If so then he can either deduct his actual car expenses (gas, insurance, repairs, etc), or mileage, but either way he can only deduct the business % of his costs. If he just uses it to commute to work, then no he can't deduct any of his car expenses.
Torri Tippey: he had to get new brake pads, alignment (from hitting a snow bank, but he didnt go to insurance), a new timing belt (that, according to the cars file, needed to be fixed a month before he purchased the car. he is taking that up with the dealer he bought it from)
Brenton Cornwall: If he is an employee, normally no. Only if he uses car for business purposes then he may be able to deduct part of the expenses. Commuting miles (from home to office) are not busies expense. If he has a business and uses car for business, then based on business mileage,he ca deduct part of it.Read http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/list! -of-articl......Show more
Kirk Coolbeth: Was this the result of an accident that was not insured? If so, maybe. Or was it just routine maintenance such as a new engine or transmission? In that case, no deduction.
