global warming?

Branden Round: A closer inspection of the historical data indicates that rising temperatures LEADS the rise in CO2 levels. The argument is specious. The criticism is well founded....Show more

Ulysses Failey: The reason why scientists believe and have proved carbon dioxide causes global warming is cuz carbon dioxide is a green-house gas. Carbon dioxide emissions are very less dense and will rise to top layers of the atmosphere forming a sheet of carbon dioxide around the planet. this sheet acts like the glass covering of a greenhouse - that is, it has the ability to trap sunlight (solar energy) in but at the same time prevents reflected radiations from escaping from within. So the solar energy is trapped, if you will, just like in a green house, and this causes the rise in temperature.People who say that carbon dioxide does not cause global warming are just ignorant or blind to reality. Opponents either maintain that most scientists consider global warming "unproved," ! dismiss it altogether, or decry the dangers of consensus science. However, the reason why this criticism is even out there is because some scientists are pressured to deny that global warming even exist. in surveys a much larger fraction of U.S. scientists consistently state that they are pressured by their employers or by U.S. government bodies to DENY that global warming results from human activities or risk LOSING FUNDING. (you know those OIL corporations do not want to lose all their business. HOWEVER, it is a FACT that even they realise global warming is as real as real coul be, why else would they, now that everyone's aware of global warming, spend billions into finding ALTERNATIVE SOURCES of ENERGY - they say we're running out of fossil fuels which is also true and maybe the main reason why they want to switch, else who knows they might only try to burn down the planet)You know how some people are saying the climatic changes are not caused by greenhouse gas emission ! and that it is just natural. im yet to be satisfied by any re! asons those people have to give me. If you want more info feel free to email me....Show more

Dewey Heersink: Its all rubbish, just some fancy scheme to stop us driving round in big engined cars, i think if its true then its very good, especially as there is soon to be no need to fly to a holiday destination as the warm weather comes to you instead.

Arnette Dominici: Well...any time you change the atmosphere's composition - even slightly by adding CO2 - you change its emissivity...this, on the balance, changes equilibrium temperatures. As to whether increasing CO2 has caused the 1 degree average rise over the last 100 years, it is plausible. To speculate that it will cause global temperatures to rise 10 degree C and sea levels to rise 20-feet over the next hundred years...utter nonsense. When someone makes statements that some huge majority of scientists are convinced of the dire implications of increasing CO2...understand that they probably couldn't name a singl! e climatologist or meteorologist without doing a google search. I've known many...many - and frankly, its just not a big topic of discussion. If asked directly about it, most will either say that its small and overblown...or a politically motivated absurdity......EDIT....And no, CO2 does not "reflect" radiation back to the earth. It just happens to absorb better at certain thermal IR wavelengths than, say, N2 or O2......Show more

Donovan Stallons: The argument that carbon dioxide causes global warming is not in contention. Regardless of ice cores and other irrelevant garbage, it is a matter of physics that CO2 reflects back to earth longer wavelengths of light - if it didn't, we'd all freeze to death. It stands to reason that if more CO2 gets into the atmosphere, then more of these longer wavelength rays will be reflected back towards the surface of the Earth. The criticism is based on one (ONE) 800 year lag in ice-core temp v CO2 level readings. There is no evidenc! e whatsoever to link past CO2 rises with temperatures, nor is there any! evidence that says CO2 levels have NOT been responsible. If it was that cut and dried, then a concensus would have been reached a long time ago.Fact is, CO2 in the atmos helps the Earth keep warm.If we don't have it, we get too cold. If we have too much, we may get too warm.It ain't rocket science....Show more

Abraham Ladick: I'm really moderate on the issue. Here are the issues as I understand them:- All scientists believe that the Earth is heating up overall based upon empirical evidence. Glaciers are melting and temperature readings across the world are increasing a few degrees.-A great majority of scientists, based upon significant evidence collected over the last few decades, strongly believe that global climate change is occurring due to increased greenhouse gases emitted by humans. These gases include carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane.- The concentration of CO2 is increasing in the atmosphere. In other words, the air we breathe contains more CO2 than the air! that our grandparents breathed.- Some computer models are predicting that global warming will flood areas such as much of Florida within 50 years. This is due to the current melting of glaciers in the Arctic/Antarctic. - The U.S. did not sign the Kyoto Protocol due to the non-participation of the huge developing giants of China and India, among other reasons.- It appears that much of the U.S. Industry is helping develop new global climate change legislation. This legislation will likely be passed with the new Presidential administration. States, such as California, are independently developing legislation on their own. The Supreme Court recently ruled that CO2 should be regulated under the existing Clean Air Act....Show more
