Charles Dickens wrote many of his tales in weekly installments to be
published in a newspaper (the same as Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock
Holmes tales). These stories were, in some ways, to the readers what
soap operas are now. A great example of that is his Bleak House.A few
years ago, the author/law professor Alexander McCall Smith mentioned
that in a newspaper article and another newspaper invited him to write
a tale that way, in installments to be published, only his were daily
rather than weekly.These stories were very popular and like Dickens,
he then published them together as books.So, although not exactly
'like' Dickens, you might still find it interesting to read a modern
