Maynard Phoubandith: It's a mental disease because of how people percieve themselves. Bulimic and anorexic see themselves as fat, even when they are low in weight. Mentally what they see is literally a "distorted" image of themselves. This is why it is a mental disease. It is not triggered by anything physical (they inflict the harm on themselves). Everything is attributed to the psychological.
Maye Delk: I honestly think you should control yourself. The cutting is only harming yourself, and what's the point of that? You have to get help. You have to make everything better. Things may not seem the best right now, but who on earth really matters to you if they think you're not good enough for them? Because right now, the only person that should matter is YOU. Get treatment, and be strong. You'll get through this. It makes me sad to see people making the choice to ignore this and continue with this unhealthy life choice....Show more
Theresia Fashaw: yes that is ! true but, can it kill u?
Andre Winegar: It is a mental disorder because bulimic use binging and purging methods in order to feel control of their lives. They usually use this as a means to make them selves feel like they can control at least one thing. It is a HUGE deal. Just like addiction, people often die from this, and have serious health problems due to mal-nutrition....Show more
Kristina Brockwell: Bulimia is definately a big deal....the people will binge by stuffing their faces and then go hide and throw it all up. the dangerous part of this disease is that your body doesn't get nutrients thus resulting in hair loss, teeth deterioration from the acid in the stomach, your period stops from lack of nutrition, and even your esophogus will rupture and will kill you. there are many other side effects of this disease but i just gave you a few. the reason this disease is a mental health disease is because for those people its not all about weightloss...the! re are mental things going on in their heads. sometimes it he! lps to relieve pain from past problems, or because someone put it in their head they are fat even though they aren't. people need food, and it isn't the healthy way to lose weight. they don't realize they are hurting themselves more by doing it....Show more
Sheree Hipwell: Anorexia and bulimia are both mental (psychiatric) diseases. They deal mainly with perception and distortion, lack of self esteem and a need to be "perfect". However, there are physical effects of the disease, which fall under a medical category. Many of these effects are ultimately fatal. If you don't think that either one of these diseases are a "big deal or a huge problem", do some research and see what you come up with. I think you'll be in for a rude awakening. EMTEdit: YES, anorexia and bulimia can both lead to death. It starts off with vitamin deficiencies and ends with multiple organ system failure..NOT a pleasant way to die....Show more
Shawnna Kusky: People with bulemia do not have! any physical medical reason for losing weight (such as nausea, parasitic infection etc) and cannot be cured using conventional abtibiotics, surgery or other. Bulemics need to want to help themselves before they can recover. This is not to say that it is not still an illness, just that , the person themselves (usually influenced by outside factors) is responsible for becoming ill.
